LECTURE THREE

Telling Factual Stories with PICTURES
-          Dr Bruce Redman
Bruce opened us up to the world outside the realm of written Journalism to the likes of –
҉            Cave paintings dating back to 10 000BC in France and Australia;
҉            ‘PLATO’ → ‘Shadows on the cave wall’ & the revolution of the television;
҉            Holy books & stained glass;
҉            Newspapers in the 1860s – first illustration was a lined drawing;
҉            Photography begins!  1879 → advertisement ‘Steining Hall’ → first published news photo;
҉            COLOUR! (1936);
҉            The revolution of DIGITALISATION & the ability to capture & instantaneously upload images using the internet & satellite;
҉            Digital manipulation → Dove Commercial;



҉            Photo journalism;
҉            What makes a great piccy → frame, focus, angle & point of view, exposure, timing, ‘capturing the moment’ & the rule of thirds;
҉            Afgan Mona Lisa → the search for Sharbut Guia;


҉            Moving pictures → adds a sounds dimension.

Overall, this weeks topic was extremly fascinating. I enjoied it thoroughly :)
